Butterfly Pillow Craft
If you have a butterfly lover in your family, this is an easy and fun project they will love. They can easily be hung from the ceiling with fishing line and small hooks.
This craft is fairly simple and can be assembled with either a sewing machine, simple hand stitching, no-sew or even hot glue. Purchased your felt squares from your local craft store or Wal-mart.
Each butterfly uses two colored felt squares and one half of a black felt square and black pipe cleaners (this depends on the desired size, for a smaller butterfly you would use less felt).
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Sewing Machine, Needle and Thread or Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Felt of Various Colors
Black Felt
Black pipe cleaners
Fiber fill batting
Fishing line
Small hooks
DIRECTIONS:
1. Draw out the patterns for the wing and body on a piece of paper. You will only need to draw out one wing and one body pattern and use them for both sides.
2. Cut out the paper patterns and pin them to the felt.
3. For the wings, you will need to cut four felt pieces.
4. For the body you will need to cut out two pieces.
5. Laying the felt wings together, you can either hand stitch, machine sew, no sew or hot glue. If you use fabric glue, prepare for extra time for drying.
* When assembling, remember to leave an opening to stuff the wings and body.
6. Once the butterfly is stuffed, hand stitch or hot glue the opening closed.
7. Assemble the butterfly,by simply hand stitch or hot glue the wings to the body.
8. For the antennae, take two pipe cleaners and poked them into the tip of the butterflies head. Roll the ends of the pie cleaners for an extra touch.
9. To hang these adorable butterflies, simply threaded fishing line in to the back of each butterfly. Cut the fishing line to the length you want and tie the end to a small hook. Thread the hooks into the ceiling.
TIPS:
1. You can embellish the butterflies with glitter, buttons, sequence, etc.
2. Make them the size of ornaments and decorate a small tree at Christmas for your child’s birthday.
3. Add some lace and make them larger to use as throw pillows or shams on your child’s bed.
* These truly are adorable and they even cast cute shadows.
