Safety Tips For Babies – Car Seats

Typically this BLOG is geared for older children but I came across some information I didn’t know (and some I knew) that I thought I’d pass along in case there are other parents that could benefit from the information.CAR SEATS:
Did you know that babies should only be in car seats while riding in cars. This may sound silly or even like a “duh” moment but I know several young mothers who leave their baby in their car seats for up to 30 minutes once they get home.  Usually their hands are full with other things or they need to unload the car or the phone rings. Whatever the reason, it is never safe to leave your baby in their car seat.  A recent study by scientists at Cincinnati Children’s hospital found that about 8,600 babies are hurt each year by falls in car seats used outside of the car. Although most injuries are not fatal, they do include head trauma and broken bones. Seats should be used only as a way to transport our babies in the car. I know sometimes mothers can be distracted and busy. I know it seems harmless to leave your baby for a few minutes but nothing is more important than the safety of your child.

* Be inconvenienced for a few minutes. Just be safe where your children are concerned.

* Just as a reminder: Always make sure the car seat is properly installed in your car. If you are unsure of how your seat should be secured, most communities have classes to show you or your local police department can show you.
